Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
Hey Everyone,
Looking to add some ski guides and track mats to a 12' Drive on/Drive off V nose.
What set set ups have you guys used? AND does anyone know where to get the best price on theses accessories?
I was thinking of doing something similar to the picture I attached.
I also found these:
http://www.slideguides.com/trailer_slides.html
They look nice and they are 12' lengths. But shipping may be a bit spendy. I may have to look into picking them up while I am in WI.
Just wanted to see if anyone had any othe ideas....

Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
You can certainly buy more expensive slides, I've been thinking about getting some as well.
It turns out my Case/IH store is listed as a dealer of these!

Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
I bought some from Dennis Kirk a few years back; they're made of recycled plastic and have worked well. The guides are grooved pieces screwed down to the deck and are wide enough to accept different sizes of sleds. The track rides on individual cleats, also screwed to the deck a few inches apart. Power Madd is the product name.
Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
I've gotten sprint car tires from a friend of mine, and use those for the mat, just cut the side walls off. So if you know anyone racing, you could probably get old tires from them for a mat.

Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
I generally cut up a wrecked track to use. I have got a few from the dump with damage. Doesn't help with the skies but works well for the track.

If you are looking for low-budget ski glides, find an old used pickup truck bed liner. You can cut it with a jig-saw.

Eric,
I have 1000's of feet of conveyor belting in various widths, some are textured and some are smooth, some have a clothe looking top also....this is probably the same stuff you buy at Dk or where ever....FREE from Paul---E !!
Just get me the width you would like and the length......

Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
I also used belting on one side of my trailer and the ramp. It added quite a bit of weight, but will probably outlast the trailer. In typical farmer fashion I let my Dad convince me to hold it down with 1" x 1/8'' strap steel every 3 feet Works great though when the pics on my '01 Poo 700 dig in.

Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
If you wanted to go traditional farmer fashion, you would have used old baling wire in lieu of the strap steel so it could be replaced more often. Job security and economy are essential.
Re: Track Mat/ Ski Guides Question
if someone is looking for a good way to hold track or belting down to trailer. i have used the bolts that hold the cups to the belt of a grain leg/elevator. they are 1/4" bolt by various length, with a broad head.
