I have had the opportunity to work on a couple of Herters over the years.
Both were 72's I think. Both had steel tunnels. One Kohler twin and one Lloyds single. The Husky had an 18" track and the single a narrow track 15".

I don't think Herters had a 75 model in fact there are very few 74's out there. I have never heard of a Snow Falcon model.
The Vin tag should be on th side of the tunnel up under the dash.

Wow!! Sounds like a great trade to me. Does "Herters" still exist? In the day folks around here ordered lots of gun, ammo, parts from them. They were a big deal. No sleds around here though.

GOOD FIND. Herter's were made in Waseca (southern MN) not too far from were I grew up. My grandfather had a pair, but were long gone by the time I started riding. We inherited his Scorpion. Then we started buying JD's as the neighbor owned the JD dealership and had kids the same age. Every day after school 4 to 6 of us would head out across the fields. Good times.

A little Herter's history (from snowmobilemuseum.com, they also indicate 74 as last model):
In 1968, Herter’s Inc. of Waseca, MN introduced the first of their snowmobiles called the Hudson Bay Husky Snow Sleds with 3 models. Herter’s, founded in 1893, was a direct-buy mail order firm specializing in sports and outdoor equipment. For 50 cents, you could order their 600 page catalog. Their ad stated “Guaranteed no snowmobile made of more expensive materials, better workmanship, more durable or faster.” By 1969 they offered 6 models as well as a sled cutter and the trailer to pull your snow sled. In 1970,14 models were offered and from 1971 through 1974 anywhere from 7 to 9 models were offered. Over these years JLO, Sachs, and Kohler engines were used. Herter’s eliminated their snow sleds after the 1974 model year due to snow conditions and the state of the economy.

Helped a friend work on his 1972 Herter's husky this afternoon.

It is a wide track (18") and is a tank. The engine is a 340 kohler. Same series as the JD 300 but just a little larger.

The sled has a steel chassis and it is built. Has extra gussets and reinforcements at the stress points. Did I say it is a tank?

The rear idler axle has four, yes I said four wheels. Did I mention it is a tank? Weighs a tonne.

She will roar to life tommorrow.

The only place you might find the year would be on the belt guard by your primary clutch.I had 1 and sold it for 2200.oo but mine was mint.Do not alter it because sometimes they are worth more in their original condition..Troy minnesota
