Feb. 19th 2011 Ride with the Champs & VC

Post by JoeRainville »

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to post a reminder that this years RWC will be Sat. Feb 19th in St. Germain, WI hosted by thee Hall of Fame. The HOF let us know that they will once again host two vintage groups again this year, along with two groups of modern sleds. Last year I believe the vintage guys outnumbered the modern riders only two years into the Vintage Challenge.

The vintage riders will have the option of taking on the 150+ mile round trip to lake Gogebic in the UP of MI. This is the same ride the 'fast riders' on modern sleds takes. Last year about 40 brave soles took on the challenge! There is also a shorter ride available that stays closer to St. Germain and the local lakes, doing about half the milage of the challenge riders.

New for this year will be a "Womans Ride" that will a nicer paced guided tour round St. Germain and Eagle River. Cari Deerest is thinking of riding this one, and I think Joann Kruger is going to lead the event. This is a great way to get your significant others involved with the RWC, but at her own pace.

For all us VC riders, I will again offer my trailer and truck to pick up sleds, and I have just purchased a new 31 footer to make sure we have room for back up sleds too. (OK, I might take it to the Vintage I-500 too). We will be looking for support truck drivers again this year, holler if you can lend a hand!

Hope to see you all join us and keep the Deere brand well represented!

We could also use a few participants on late model sleds for trail support.

This is an important job, so if you aren't quite up to riding vintage, please consider volunteering.

This is an event I really would like to make someday. I even have a sled 100% ready this year for something like this ride. Unfortunately, a group of us will be in Togwotee, WY during this time. This is the second year in a row that this has happened...

Joe/Guy's; It looks Like I won't be in shape to ride by Feb. ( Nurse Carla's orders ) so I'll pull your trailer again if you guys want me too??
If Carrie Deerest does the woman ride I will need a co-pilot also I won't be able to do any lifting so someone will have to be able to lift the sleds to where they need to go..

Grumpy Hiens,

It would be great to have you join us, deal out tuning advice and "keep the kids (us) in line" again. We really enjoyed having you sit with us in garage and bark orders at us. Funny, but I kind of mean that, LOL!

I will offer you my new 31' trailer and even my truck (with snow's on all four corners) if you don't have yours. Cari is up in the air about riding, as she has never done a long ride with her driving. That said, we will find you a navigator one way or another. I assume you can drive a manual tranny!

We will also have support driver packets made up with better maps and directions, and info to where the GPS's do not work accurately.

It will be great to have you join us and I hope your health continues to improve.

Thanks for offering your vehicles guys but I'll stick with my Chevy Duramax/Allison.. I think it can handle anything that Rainville can hook behind it..
I'm Hoping that Tucker will be on his own 78 Cyclone special built for the HOF Ride.. Jerome now has 2 cranks to rebuild for it or one to use as parts if needed & a crankcase to give to a friend of his who is already updating with other newer style Reeds for the Deere's with reed valves  .. If I get up North in Mid to Late Dec like I plan we should have plenty of time to rebuild his chassis & add CC Bars, Toe Holds, full gauges, a 76-77 fuel tank, & a Dator Seat.. While Still having time to do clutch & Duel Carb adj./testing because of the twin pipes
( not sure yet IF they will be Dator or Liquifire twin pipes.. I'm still in the thinking stages for that??
We'll still have to stud the track, & unless we have a track failure we plan on running the 2/3 cleat, not by choice & not my favorite, but because it's there ( yea Grandpa is to cheap to use any of his NOS AM54336 CC tracks ). I would like to find a light weight Yokohama with a 2.52 pitch that will fit the 78 Deere suspension, but that could be a project for the summer of 2011..
