I was just wondering what you guy's use when you need to replace a
throttle cable on your 76-78 Liquifires. Tha after market one that I
bought will not let the throttle valve fully open unless you have it
adjusted so far that it will not close far enough to idle down. I tried
the next size up and that was to long. Any help would be great or
if anyone would have a AM53798 orginal one to get rid of that would

Ron,
I experienced the same thing. I ended up setting the cable to get a good idle. In reality, you problably will not hold the throttle at WOT anyway.

If I understand this right what you are saying is the throttle cable housing is too long and is restricting the inner cable travel from idle to WOT?????
I had the same issue with a universal throttle cable I installed on my 295/s. What I did was shorten the metal farrel on the throttle lever end of the cable housing. The metal end of my cable had a step in the last 1/4" of it at the very end. I carefully cut that step off with a hack saw blade being careful not to hit the internal cable itself. Then with a very small file I tried to chamfer the fresh cut end so it would not cut or fray my cable with a rough cut edge. Just that little bit allowed me to have full use of the throttle travel. You can then tape the difference you cut off with electrical so the cable fits securely in the handle bar mount. Just an idea but it worked for me.

What I have found is on the carb end the cable has to pull out 2 3/4". The universal one
that I bought for the 34 carb pulls out 2 1/2". The lever end does not bottom out when

The cable I modified was for a dual carb set up. It was a 24"universal cable that the joint from single cable to dual cable was a 4" long round cylinder joint. What I'm suggesting may not work on a the rectangle box joint type cable. If you have the long 4" round cylinder joint style and cut 1/4" off the single cable end it will enable the double cable end enough travel to get you the 2-3/4" you need. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you shorten the housing on the single cable end it will lengthen both the inner cables on the carb ends.

What Troy is discribing works very well.
I have run into problems on several oddball orphan sleds that needed new T-cables and modified the "Universal" types with success.
