What did you guys learn from the I-500 leg this year?

I would like to know what was learned this year from you guys that raced. I'm going to put together a 2nd-gen liquifire, or possibly a trailfire(waist of time?) for next year, and would like to know some of the things that you did that did, or didn't work.... hopefully I'll learn enough, and build mine good enough to beat the snot out of a few arctic cats or polaris's....

Get your sled together NOW, and test for next year. Don't be fooled, beating the snot out of other brands means you first have to be ready, the biggest lesson learned by the ameteurs this year. A good running Trailfire or Sporty would hold their own...the average speed of the winner was 45 MPH. A Trailfire or Sportfire's tongue would be wagging all day long, but the top speed for both of them is well above 45 MPH.

so, the whole popcorn eating thing, is it that you can't wait to see me beat them, or do you think it will be fun to see me "crash and burn"?

I honestly think i can make a good go of it..... I have a good trailfire, that has been in the family since new, and is a proven runner, i have a very good running liquifire, but it's an 84... , so... do i hunt for a different sled, or do i add a splash of new parts to the trailfire, and run it? i don't like the idea of starting all over with a "new" sled....

and did anyone have any suspension casualties?

my comments , i hope if this thing is to be run again next year by the uscc i hope they publish the rules soon .that will give everyone a base line for legal parts interchanges ie dual carbs on sportfires etc .

most imortantly is realiability remember the turtle and the rabbit story .if you can be consistant and stay moving you will do yourself proud .

i plan to participate myself next year , may stick someone else on the seat raceday but plan to have a sled there in any event . i wouldn't consider using a family hearloom [sp] as an i500 sled or a collectable sled as an 84 l/f besides as the rules stand now 81 is as new as you can run , like i said back to the rule thing . i am trying to deside between a 78 or an 80 l/f i like the 78s because of the reliability of the kioritz motors but i think the 80s are a better ride and i few more ponies . ive been plotting on using the hof as a shakedown run for a racesled or at least see if ive got the taters to pull it off . ive got an 81 l/f that has a fresh mill that ive never been able to get to run right i looked at it for about 20 minutes last night . i think it would be the perfect candidate for me if i could get it dialed in . after watching the race one time i wouldnt enter any sled that you cant live without in other words :if your sled gets destroyed dont be terribly disappointed or suprised, just me wade

I'd have to go with a 80 LF. Would avoid a FC.

I learned that after building a race sled from the ground up, you should tighten every bolt. Especially the coolant drain bolt...

Be prepared for anything including skipping on open water, 8 foot ruts, railroad tracks, -27 temps and vertical drops.
