1973 JD 300 drive belt?????

Post by mikes47jeep »

hi all

I am having a hell of a time getting a drive belt for my 73 JD300

i have part numbers like crazy but there seems to be some despute on the correct length'

now correct me if im wrong but the offical JD part number is M64549

NAPA crosses that to a 19T4312 "snowmbile belt" 1-3/16" wide 42-1/8" long $43

i was also told by someone a NAPA 19T4300 fits but thats 1-3/16" wide and 42-13/16" long $43

however rusty palmer powersports crosses a JD 300 belt to LMX-1034 thats 1-3/16 wide 43-1/16" long $28

or a LM-717 thats 1 3/16”wide x 43” long $25

i have a BRAND NEW spare that came with the sled its a hair longer than the old belt but it seems to slip more that the worn out belt when i really lean on the power thats a Kimpex super K 10-225 3601-161

so... whos right?? or are they all wrong

I'm having a similar issue with my 76 400. I bought a belt from mfgsupply that is the only belt listed for that sled and it's way too short. I'm trying to get a number off the one that was on it, but the belt is pretty dry rotted and hard to read.

You said a 73 300. According to this website, the first year JD made them was 74.

Dennis Kirk lists a Super-X Parts Unlimited #1034 which is 1 3/16" X 43" for $27.99 plus shipping. Same belt as the 72-73 400.

This sounds like the same belt as the Rusty Palmer Powersports you noted. Also, DK shows the 717 and 1034 you noted as the same belt.

The 76 400 uses a Super-X Parts Unlimited #1071 which is 1 1/4" X 44 5/8". $28.99. This belt is also used on the 500 & 600. Kreechur, you may have gotten a belt for the 72-73 400 which would be shorter.

Remember size does matter.

But with belts it is width that is key not lenght.

1034's are very common belts at 1 3/16" x 43. Plus or minus a 1/4 " is moot.

By the way a sled built in 9-73 is a 74 model.

I just looked and the one i got was a Dayco HP3001, so if anyone has use for that, let me know. mfgsupply had that one listed as the one for a 76, so i think they are wrong.

The actual year gets confusing. Deere built sleds a year early so the build date is actually 1 year ahead of the model year. The letter stamped behind the model designation in the serial number is the year. A=72, B=73, C=74 etc. So if your 300 is stamped 3000C XXXXX you have a 1974 300.

To bring this up again, did the 300's use a hp3001 or hp3007? Thanks

reason I ask, I have someone asking me what belt he needs for his 300. I guess he assumes I'm the one to ask lol

Looks like the HP3001 should be correct if it's got the Salsbury clutches.
