340/S Drive belts
I ordered a belt from Dennis Kirk and recieved a Parts Unlimited #LMX1071 Belt. It shows on the website it is the right belt along with a bunch of other JD Sleds. I seems to be quite a bit shorter than the M65703. Can this be right? It seems like alot to be stretched. Does anyone have a cross referance number for other belts? Would be interested in NOS Deere belts also if any are still around. Thanks

I'm not a 340s expert but, Carlisle's vintage snowmobile belt catalog lists the 340s belt as MAX1080M2 which is 45-31/32 x 1-7/32. DK's web site lists the dimensions of the LMX1071 as 44-5/8 x 1-1/4.

Re: 340/S Drive belts
The 340/s belt is 47-1/2" x 1-1/4". Those belts will be too tight and kill the engine, if you can even get it started! There isn't enough room to slide the engine back to run a shorter belt because the air box is in the way and it messes up how the exhaust fits and seats up. One option is a Dayco 1104 belt. It's 47-7/8" x 1-1/4". The bad part is its a little long. You can't slide the engine far enough forward to compensate. I had to extended the slots in the engine mounting plate by about a 1/4" to allow me to get the engine far enough forward to run the 1104 belt correctly. The down side is these belts are just about as scarce as the original 340/s belts.

Re: 340/S Drive belts
T-roy is dead on!! Do NOT rely on catalogs to purchase a 340/S belt. They're all too short. I still use NOS M65703 and have only one belt failure. Not bad for 30+ year old belts.

Re: 340/S Drive belts
Grumpy Hiens is right, I have a LOT of 340/s NOS Belts. Like a pallet box full:>)
I use them for show, but don't trust them like a new belt since they are from 1975 and belts generally have a 7 year shelf life. I sell the cheap thought. For my restored 340/s I adjusted the motor to fit the common 1071 (I think anyway) belt. Troy it generally right that some sleds won't let you move the motor that far ahead, but I got away with it.
