Carb cleaner?

What is the best stuff to clean / soak a carb? I have some old LF carbs that are just caked inside with crud, I bought a gallon can of carb cleaner but it must have really been some cheap stuff, as it didn't even put a dent in the white corrosion caked on the bottoms of the float bowls.

The white corrosion caked on the bottoms of the float bowls is the aluminum oxidizing. Use a cleaner such as LIME-AWAY or similiar scale removal chemical and steel wool.
