77 340 liquifire oval racer. HELP

Hey fellas, I have a chance to buy a 77 liquifire 340 for $225. Do you think this would be competitive in stock class racing? I have never owned a kioritz powered sled, can these be made into a decent racer? If anyone has experiance with setting up a sled like this or any other feed back, could you please give me your input? Thanks ,can't wait to see the wisdom some of you may be willing to share. Mike

There are not many (if any) oval racers in this group here. The question might be better suited for vintagesleds.com or vintagesledders.com, but with the exception of Takeittothelimit on vintagesleds who has raced them competitively, they may just tell you to race something else.

Give it a try, Those early Liquifires were pretty quick sleds. I am sure there are alot worse sleds you could run. If it is anything like dirt track auto raceing its all about setup and the driver.

If you want to race then I would say buy it. If you want to race competitively then I suggest you find out what sleds you'll run against as I don't think an LF will be competitive. Again, if you just want to race the price is right and you have to start somewhere. Let us know how it goes.

id go for it, you never know, you might be on to something there i recently rebuild a 76 liquifire 340 with a 440 koritz in it, rebuilt the whole motor, jetted the carbs etc.. everything is all stock except a handle bar hook, and the decals, but it was pretty competitive in the triathlon other then i got stuck and it killed my time, yesterday i went on a vintage ride, and a couple time my friend on his merc trail twister where neck and neck, if i remember right the 77's where lighter then 76, the 77's had a lighter hood, lighter front bumper, alum belt guard, and brackets as well as an alum lower steering post bracket, and I'm sure a couple other parts, the more weight you can save the better, the liquifire seem to run alot better in colder temps and on hardpack snow they rip right along
