AM55051 (low "sport" windshield)?
You guys have probably noticed that I have a serious case of OCD. This has been bugging me on and off for the last few months.
One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing one of the second gen LF's with a cross-country style windshield (I do have one on one of my sleds ). Anyhow, when I look at Deere published photos I've noticed that there were two distinctly different "sport style" windshields. According to the part breakdowns, the windshields were the same from 80-84, but the o-rings did change part numbers. You can see the difference in the photos below (the back edge is rounded on the 83).
For the 83 season did they change the windshield slightly and keep the original part number? I was also wondering if the 83 and 84 sleds use the middle tab and what is different about the o-rings / mounting? The parts list shows part numbers N117052 for -190,000 and M69274 for 190,000-

Re: AM55051 (low "sport" windshield)?
From the experience that I have had selling items in the aftermarket OEM numbers can vary over a course of time, but can usually signify the same exact item.
I carry the aftermarket of these two windshields based off of the Sno-Stuff brand and I can see only 3 inches in difference. Measuring the 80-84 Cross Country replacement came up with 21 inches, and the 80-84 Sport came out to be 18 inches. Now they may not be exactly a spitting image of the OEM, since I have no references to the original, but this is what the are claiming to be the replacements for them. It's hard to tell from the pictures if they really are 3 inches in difference. The tabs on the bottom appear to be exactly the same, except the Sport is missing the middle tab, so the original sized o-rings would appear to work for both.

Re: AM55051 (low "sport" windshield)?
When I bought a new windshield for my '80 Liquifire I was looking for the shorter "sport" windshield. Ended up purchasing the Sno-Stuff brand and cutting it down to the sport windshield size. For the windshield tabs, I just purchased new o-rings at a local plumbing store, drilled holes into the windshield tabs and used nylon license plate retaining bolts and nuts. Ended up working out quite well.
I will mention, and I am not paid to advertise or anything, that Cannon Classics has what appears to be the sport windshield. I don't know if you're searching to buy one, but hope it helps if you are.

To answer one of your original questions, the '83-'84 originally did have a center tab added. I'm not sure about the change from straight edge to curved edge took place, but I've seen both styles.
The Cannon Classic sport style windshield has a straight edge, but it sits about 1" past the edge of the hood. That way, you can cut a curve into it, cut it straight, or leave it as is. Mine is as-is, because I don't mind the overhang and don't want to risk cutting it wrong.

I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong but I was thinking that only the 79's was made without the center tab.

Matt ~ That's interesting, the picture of the sport windshield on Jeff's website has the curved back edge. Maybe he sells them both ways. The Cannon Classic sport style windshield has a straight edge, but it sits about 1" past the edge of the hood. DA ~ Both of my 80 Liquifire's do not have a slot in the hood for the middle tab. I'm not sure about the other 1980 models (Trails & Sports).

Yea, it looks like Jeff has changed his stock design. I'm sure he would still make the old style like I have if you wanted. I'm fairly sure that the center tab didn't come until later - last year I had an 80 liq hood on my sled which did not have a center tab slot. My current hood doesn't have one either but I think it's from a '79 Trail.nick80lf wrote:Matt ~ That's interesting, the picture of the sport windshield on Jeff's website has the curved back edge. I'm pretty sure the center slot was a running change for/during the 82 lineup.

I have (2) 81's and both have the center slot. One has the original CC windshield still intact.
