440 Invader/440 Liquifire
So i have a complete 81 440 invader at my dispose thats a parts machine and i was thinking about putting the carbs from the invader on my 78 liquifre with a 440 Kioritz. my question is would there be any gain by doing this? what would i do for jetting? has anyone done this swap? the invader has the econo jet carb on it

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
I can't see there being any major gains in switching carbs, clutching and tuning of the stock carbs would probably get you further ahead. What is on the invader for carbs?

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
the invader has 36mm mikuni econo jet carbs on it and i think the liquifire has regular 34mm mikunis

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
The 76 -78 were running 34mm's. There might be improvements with the 36's, I am not familiar with the econo jet version are they similar to power jets?

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
Hey Scott they were close to the same thing but the econo jets were better on gas !!

Well, any gas savings would be worth the effort. My 77 only gets 8 mpg

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
Word of advice. If the kawi air box dosen't fit and the deere one wont work, jetting up might be the safe thing to do. Without the air box there will be more air going through the carbs than with it on and might lean out the mix a fair bit.

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
I hate to discourage anyone for trying something like this, but if it were me, I'd stick with the original carbs and just fine tune the carb jetting and clutches for clean performance and the best possible fuel economy. The old JD Liquifire engines were vastly different as compared to the Invader/new breed Liquifire mills and trying to find the correct jetting to use the Invader carbs on the older Liq engine could be a bit of a nightmare. Best case scenario....you'll end up spending hours and hours getting it right only to find minimal improvement. Worst case....you'll melt down a couple pistons before you get it to run the way you want. Your old Liq engine is a reed valve design and likely runs around 1000 RPMs lower as opposed to the piston port Invader mill, so you can bet it'll be a bit of a task getting the powerjet carbs to function proerly in this vastly different application. I really can't think of one good reason to do this swap other than perhaps, learning things that need not be learnt. But heck, if it's what you want to do, then go for it.

Re: 440 Invader/440 Liquifire
Also I think that if there is no sir box used the powerjet circuit won't work correctly, maybe due to vacuum or something. I hate the PJ carbs with a passion and think that Pete's/ my first suggestion would be less stressful.
