Great JD finds of 2010
Let's see some pictures of your great JD finds of 2010.
I have a couple of things I want to show off so I'll start this show with a simple hood.
This is a 1981 Liquifire hood that was found in West Bend Wi about 1/2 hour from Horicon. It is in pretty good condition and the lettering on it is all hand painted. John Deere marketing was to have Jerry Bassett race for them in the I500 in 1981. Jerry was then the Editor of Snow Goer Magazine at that time and
also was in the I500 race in 1976 as well. Jerry never saw the sled this hood was on or the hood because the race was canceled for the first time due to lack of snow. Fast forward 30
years and the hood turns up on a 1979 340 Trailfire. Speculation from me is that the snowmobile went to a dealer to be sold and the hood was sold at an employee sale at Deere in Horicon. It now hangs on my wall anticipating the day when Jerry sees it in person for the first time and signs it.

Re: Great JD finds of 2010
Well for me it's the 73 500 with the "unknown" hood scoop..I know their are speculations it's just a home jobbie...but to me it's something special and just show me another one like it.
I didn't buy too many sled this year, but the other would be a VERY perfect 340 Cyclone that just needed a seat and probably a cdi once I get too it, and I finally found a 78 LF, as I really don't think there are that many up this way.

While attending the 2010 Hall of Fame ride I found this. Haven't seen it since then though.

Re: Great JD finds of 2010
OK, seriously here's my find /loss / find of 2010.
I found this in Michigan.
After I got it home, turns out it started life about 15 miles from me.
Tore it down and started with the basics.
Finally finished it just before leaving for the U.P.
30 miles into our shakedown run a tree jumps out in front of me.
Making the sled look something like this.
Rebuilt with new composite skis just before the Hall of Fame (non) Ride.
So there ya go, that's my "find" of the year.

Re: Great JD finds of 2010
I guess My finds were a nice 78 440 LF all it needed was a recovered seat, CDI box and clean up. not bad for 3000 miles onit.
2nd was a LF CC track hiding out in an 82 spitfire. It never saw the snow in this sled so it almost NOS

Ultra-rare NOS John Deere chrome racing calipers with a lifetime supply of brake pads --- these were never released by John Deere for the 340/s and Liquidator. Part numbers AM53711 and AM52798.

Re: Great JD finds of 2010
John Deere Bicycles are pretty cool but most are pretty cheaply made though the early 1900s ones are worth big $$$. i think mine is a 1970 or 1971. No big finds for me in 2010 but 2011 is looking more promising. You guys have some awesome finds.

I've been a patron at that particular pub. It would be awful nice if the ride home were a little shorter so I could be classified as a "regular".WinnipegStPaul9 wrote:While attending the 2010 Hall of Fame ride I found this. Haven't seen it since then though.
Isn't that a vessel of Grandpa's Boy on the bar?
