I am in the process of tearing down the engine on my 77 cylcone 340. The whole sled had sat out in the guys grove for at least 15 yrs. without a cover on it but all in all it's not in too bad a shape. My question is when I took reed valves off the manifold they looked pretty good shape. Can a person clean them up and put them back in to use? They are what looks to be steel with hardly any rust at all and no cracks. Thanks. Mailman

The reeds are actually made of stainless steel which does not rust as quickly as regular steel. They can be reused. After assembly, check the "hang-open " gap. It should not exceed .060 inch. The reeds should form a "light-tight " seal when pinched together with finger pressure. Replace if warped or cracked.
