1976 I-500

Post by dator »

Does anyone remember the party John Deere Canada put on after the 1976 Winnipeg St Paul I-500,which Brian Nelson won ? It was at the Holiday Inn Winipeg.
Here is a picture of the invite they were handing out.

Chuck, maybe you can still use that ticket for a free meal at the Holiday Inn--LOL

Are you going to be doing any work on that Dator? I would love to see it one day!!! Bob

And Chris I will give you a call later today.

I will just tell Holiday Inn that i,m running a little late for the event, sure they wil understand and honor the ticket.

That Dator has been gone thru and totally cleaned up. I did have too paint the hood and install new decals as this was mesed up by others . Otherwise its all original condition with no other painted parts. A real Barn find

I talked to a guy that went to that party, he said it got pretty wild and the manager of the holiday inn tried to shut down the party, the guy claims bob carlson told him not to stop the party and he had enough money to buy the hotel and the manager was the first guy he was going to fire. the party went on..... that was what I was told by one of the racers who also worked for deere. bryan

The party at the Holiday Inn was in one of the second floor ballrooms, and we had a Cyclone on display there. I think it was one of Stan Ryman's crew, Steve Smith, that started that Cyclone up, and proceded to drive it down the staircase and into the front lobby. That was one of the reason's the manager was trying to put a stop to the I-500 winning party... But RJ was able to change his mind!!! ( I'll never ever forget that night,it was awesome)

Thanks for the comments Bob. Jon has mentioned that it was the Mother of all parties.

Guys:

Suppose they'd let us do that at the Whitetail? We had the Sporty in there, but we didn't fire it up.

I was thinking the same thing. Today, there would have been multiple cell phone videos of that. However I suspect there would also be police involved! Now that's a party.
