Sitting here at a hotel lobby computor just south of the Newark Liberty Airport where we fly out of tomorrow.
Left MSP 30 minutes late as one of the flight attendents overslept.... for a 1:30 pm flight.
The flight to LGA was 2 hours and 20 minutes in length. Not bad at all. I was seated next to a Cech Figure Skating Coach that had defected to the US back in the 70's during the Olympics. Even at 50 she had a body that would melt ice.
But the trip from Queens to Elizabeth NJ was a memorable event that took a full 4 hours to travel about 30 miles. It envolved just about every form of transportation known to mankind except a canoe to cross the Hudson and a horse to slog the swaps of the Jersey Shore.
We started our trek to the Garden State on NYC Transit bus route Q-33. Our driver must have been related to the Malachi Brothers. The bus had two speeds, full throttle and binders on hard. And on the horn the entire time!!
The longest time we stood still was when A NYPD officer was blocking our path as there was a GLBSTG parade and pride event happening somewhere around 36th St. in, you guessed it, Queens. What a site for my innocent 16 yo daughter to see.
But for me personally the highlight on the bus was witnessing the woman across the isle from me breast feeding her infant son, with no coverup at all. Oh to be a child again.
We got off the bus at Jackson Heights and took the E Subway to Penn Station. This took us under the East River and into Manhattan. The GLBSTV folks were in force there also along with the folks handing out religious tracts and flowers.
A Kiosk set us up with some spendy tickets to ride the NJT train to Newark Airport where we got to see some real pretty real estate east of downtown Seracuse.
Then we took a short ride to the P-4 Terminal on a robotic Air-Train where we waited 30 minutes for a Hotel Shuttle to deliver us the the Marriot.
After we checked in we walked across the street to Ruby Tuesday's for supper as the desk clerk said they were open til 11pm. Except on Sunday nights. We ended up at IHOP down the block which was first rate dining as usual plus a bonus. Yet another infant feeding right out in the open. I am heading up to my room for a cold shower.
Off across the Atlantic Monday.
ps It is still damn hard to find anyone that speaks English in NYC but the local women bonding with their offspring is great scenery.

Todd, did you explain to those mothers that you are a toddler yourself and it's because of breast feeding that you've experienced a growth spurt. They may feel sorry for you and treat you to a travelers treat.

Re: Celtic Wonderland
Back on US soil again. We arrived at Newark Liberty yesterday at 3pm after a 6 hour flight and 6 hour time change. While the City of NY never sleeps I sure did last night as it was a long day.
Ireland is beautiful. A little spendy as the exchange rate is not in favor of the US dollar.
One Euro is equivilant to $1.48 so a four Euro pint is the same as a $6.00 glass of draft beer back home.
While Hardess( Carl's) has their Six Dollar burger in many Irish pubs you can buy a $18.00 burger after the conversion. But good food is everywhere. Never had a bad meal once in 8 days. Although I will pass on the next breakfast with black pudding.
The countryside is green as green can be. The mountains are beautiful, the people all speak English. The Traditional Irish Music nighty in all the pubs is rememberable. Never saw a snowmobile there at all. Driving on the wrong side of the road.... interesting. Eating supper in a Pub in Galway that was built in 1649, priceless.
Gots to go see NYC....

Re: Celtic Wonderland
Love that NY Style Pizza! Had some good pie at Rustic Pizza at 42nd and 2nd Ave tonight.
Toured Liberty and Ellis Island this morning. Had an All American Bacon ChesseBurger with Freedom Fries in the shadow of Lady Liberty for lunch. Walked from Battery Park up to Spring St mostly walking along Water St. This route took me throught Wall St, Chinatown, Little Italy and some interesting sights. Like the Fort Knox of NYC otherwise known as 1PP.
Hookers in NYC never sleep either. Was proped at 12 noon on Church St in fornt of a Duane Reade. Told my wife about it as I had lost her on the wrong ferry before lunch. She did not believe me until one jump in a car in front of us in a cross walk tonight. Seams $20 will still go a long way in the Big Apple. Looked over the name wall on Ellis and did not find my relations names so maybe we all where hatched out on a fence post.
Got some stories to share about Ireland but maybe not appropreate for this forum. Did enjoy one more nursing session on the ferry to the lady in the green gown. And your right DA, you never see that back in Milbank.

Re: Celtic Wonderland
OK I am back home in SD.
I found out 12 hours before I left two weeks ago that I am lossing one of my storage barns.
So I am having a fire sale soon.
I have 40 sleds to unload soon.
Not many Deeres stored in there but if anyone needs a new old machine hit me up.
I will post a list of the Deeres tomorrow.
