I was checking out Kijiji and found an '82 trailfire for sale, the type code was different from what is listed on the models page. It is J34SL, you can see the serial plate clearly on the pictures. Just wondering if anybody knows anything about this type code, if it is special or just your run of the mill trailfire?
Thanks,
Ian

Re: Trailfire Kijiji Saskatchewan
Just a guess here but it might be a version of the "Canadian Trailfire 340 Special". Appears they were made in 81 models with a "SK" designation but your "SL" might indicate it's an 82. Again, just a guess. Secondly I've seen other cases where the stamping did not match year/model. Rare?? Most likely if it's a "Canadian" special. Go to the JD models section of this website and read up on it under the heading of "Trailfire".

Thanks, that was the conclusion that I was coming to as well. I don't think I will have time to go and get it, but hopefully it goes to someone that wants to restore it, and look after it. If it is a Canadian Special it is probably quite rare.

Don't think this is a Canadian Special. No sport seat, no guages, no hand warmers, and built in 81. I understand the Canadian Specials were built in 80.

Just looking this post over and noticed something about the dates the specials were being made. Check out: 'Canadian Special, could use some facts' posted Oct. 19, 2009. It lists Trailfires 1979 thru 1984 with Canada specials being listed from 1981 to 1983 with serial numbers starting at 165001 for 1981 and ending with 222001-??? for 1983.
I didnt think Deere made the TF 340 in '83 but yet it is listed in the post Joe put up. Maybe there are more out there than we think?
