Looking for a person that has worked on sleds before to put in new crank seals in my engine. It is a JD trailfire engine. TA340 is part of the serial number. Must be in southwestern ontario. I am in Chatham, Ontario. Looking for a reasonable price as well! contact me ASAP! text me at 226-626-3879, or email. Only call inbetween 3-7. thanx!

If i was closer, i'd help you out with this, however, its a pretty simple procedure that anyone can do that is somewhat handy with a set of metric sockets. The process is outlined in your service manual, or if you do not have a service manual, (i would recommend getting one) they are avalible online in pdf format. If you only plan to change the seals, you can leave the top end intact and just split the case. Below i have pasted a link to the manual. Good luck with your project!

Dillon,
I wouldn't do it on a kawi with the ribbed seals because it rips the seals when you drive them in. Best off to split the case on a kawi.

i repectfully suggest you contact those " people " to have them do it for you if thats the way you want the job done .once you have the motor out and the clutch and flywheel off you are minutes away from having the cases split , 12 nuts or so . dont think you will get the seals crammed in without damaging it .never hurts to have the case halves resealed either wade

Dillon, I'll just give you one more piece of advice then go away. Vintage snowmobiling is NOT cheap. The happiness of a low cost sled is quickly gone when you begin to fix it up. My advice?? Do it right or don't do it at all...............dismissed!

Re: John deere 340 crank seals!
I can't advocate replacing the seals on a motor without splitting the case either. If you haven't been into it in a while you need to get in there and make sure everything is ok before you get into more trouble. If you had to replace a relatively new seal on a motor you know is alright otherwise you can get seals without the rib that can be tapped in without damage. A Winderosa 501302 fits a Trailfire and has no rib. The Trailfire motors are pretty easy to work on. If you have a clutch puller and a flywheel puller you have pretty much all the specialized tools, although a fan tool is handy.
