That for sure is one option we have BUT, If we were to do that, then I would suggest that we don't have them drill any holes.....
I would think that anyone putting these on a non 78 sled would leave the Horizontal part on to strengthen the foot rests unless going on a Show Sled or Trailer Queen, OR mounting to the far rear of the tunnel instead of the forward rear part..

Kenny I"m in I like to think for 26.00 i can make them work just fine. After all i have never found a bumper off of a 78 that would work on another 78 without doing a little tweeking. Thanks alot for all you are doing to make this happen.I will still take my 5 if it happens! Brock

Years back when I bought several NOS bumpers from the DK truckload sale I found they all needed tweaking to install.

Leaving the horizantal holes undrilled is a good idea.

I'm still in for sure. I think this is a great opportunity to pick up some excellent reproduction parts, who else would go through all the trouble of getting this project together? We appreciate all the work you have put into this Kenny, if we have to end up tweaking a bit to get these to fit I don't see a big problem. It's up to the rest of you whether you decide to drill all or some or none of the holes. I will get mine on and straight with some time and patience and a little whiskey. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks

Kenny, I think that the holes are perfectly the same from sled to sled. Maybe no holes would be best. That way they can be drilled to everyone's individual sled. Do whatever you think is the best and let em fly.

If the bar looks good with the horizontal bolts in and the major issue is the vertical hole alignment in the running board couldn't we just have them leave that hole undrilled? This would require us to drill the remaining 2 holes to install on a '78 tunnel, but at the same time allow some flexibility to fit as necessary. Really, how many virgin tunnels are there left out there (easy boys)? Also, I suspect a bunch of these are going on non-'78 sleds and the tabs will be cut off any way. I would rather drill a couple holes than try to redrill a hole that was close and then have to cover it up.
ME
The problem is that the holes in the bar are pretty much where they need to be. If I drilled the bar where the hole in the foot board is, it would be very, very close to the end of the tube.

Also the lower horizontal hole is real close to the bend, not an easy spot to drill on your own accurately.

I'd leave the bar alone and re-drill the tunnel.
