Does anyone know what width the chain is in a 340/S? Is it 13 plates wide?
Thanks,
Troy

Re: 340/S chain width?
11 plate is indeed correct. There are some 16 tooth sprockets out there, but it'll take some machining to make them work ( milling down from 13 to 11 plate thickness ).

are they readily available ? 16 tooth sprockets are shown in the 340/s parts book as an option but seem to be very few around wade

Re: 340/S chain width?
Thanks for the info guys. All the sprockets I've seen have been for either a 13 plate or 15 plate wide chain.

Re: 340/S chain width?
Hi Guys,
If your going to race or hot rod your 340/s, I would suggest going to the 13 plate wide chain and gear sets from the original 11 plate. One of my main reasons for using a 15 plate in my I-500 Liquifire is that I never broke a regular 15 plate chain in 10 years of racing snocross. The I-500 raced 78 CCC of mine actually broke an original 11 plate chain during the race, taking it out of contention.
For racing, I would also suggesting going to a roller or fixed pad type tensioner to replace the spring loaded pads Deere used in various forms on all sleds except the 80-84 LF, 82-84 Sport and kitted 78 CC's.
Wade, the smallest upper sprockets I have are from the 82-84 LF hi-alt kits, and they are 18 and 19 tooth I believe.

Re: 340/S chain width?
Wade,
I am suggesting that you upgrade to 13 plate chain and sprocket sets. I have heard of guys using a 13 plate chain and upper gear on an 11 place bottom gear, as some Ski-Doo's havea non-standard lower shaft spline. They tell me it works well, but I have never done it.
I hope this helps,
