That's an early engine. No electric start and separate coil/cdi system. This stuff was in the pipeline circa 1980.Horicon Joe wrote:Good eye grasshopper ....

The Trailfire graphics look good on black.
I think DA would have had that black bumper chromed.

Pat ..... I am not sure. I could probably get the part assembly print and look for the differences between the two in order to find out.
Or, you could cut apart the exhaust from your 84 Liquifire and report back to us if it is

Dear Mr. Wanie,
I am a longtime listener, first time caller, and I have a question.
Did they paint the inside of all of them like that?
Just wondering.

Cutting torch or Sawzall? I think that might be best to make that decision while drinking adult beverages in your pub.......Horicon Joe wrote:Pat ..... I am not sure. I could probably get the part assembly print and look for the differences between the two in order to find out.

Re: How sweet it is ..... Check it out
Good question - I've also heard it may have had a 500+ cc in it, any truth there Joe? Also, we've been calling it an A-arm, but it's really a trailing arm.spitfireguyII wrote:those are awesome pictures!! i love them. but i thought the A arm model had a fan cooled kawasaki in it. the motor in that one is oviously a liquid kawi. what happened there?
Is the THE one, or a reproduction?

Re: How sweet it is ..... Check it out
Your right Matt it is a trailing arm. The first picture is from 1978 and was the first shot at it as far as I know.
I have about 50 high quality pictures of this sled taken by John Deere in 78. They show every possible angle and detail of the sled.
This second picture is from April 79 and would be the second iteration. Both have a liquid and are believed to be 440.
These two pictures account for 2 different IFS sleds both liquid cooled. We all have seen the pictures of the 2 IFS Liquifires that Polaris had (one was at Waconia)
making the confirmed 4 different IFS sleds. Ed Kruel knows there were 2 (strut) undecaled IFS sleds being tested with the 500 fans in them that he personally tested. There are no pictures of these out there to my knowledge. If we could find pictures that would make a total of 6 IFS sleds they worked on. I will post yet another IFS Sportfire
picture soon making a possible count of 7 different sleds.
