Remember guys. The photo trips were month's before production even started. Many changes were made before then. Some photo trips had fan cooled replaceing liquid motors. You had to be out there when the sun shined and no breakdowns.

Didn't some of the 80 LF promo pics actually feature a machine with a fan cooled engine?

I'd like to get close to that girl myself, but only because I want that Liquifire suit and helmet!

When testing in remote areas like the mountians and Alaska you ran into nobody. Remember this is the 70's and early 80's. On one trip to Alaska we ran into the Yamaha team. They were 170 miles on the outher end of a closed road. We met them in the middle one day. We had to haul gas 50 miles out to get back. I will put a picture of our gas hauling rig later. On the trails in the Hurley area where we did alot of testing back then you only had traffic on weekends. We did run into the artic team once, they were testing Suzuki sleds. We met at a intersection and didn't stop. We hardley ever stoped just blew everyone off!! Most of the time our test sleds looked like production except when we made a style change. Then we would make them look ugley. Enjoy ED Gas hauling rig Pallet skis and rope wide open throttle (zoom in)Horicon Joe wrote:Ed ..... I often wondered if anybody ever came up to you guys and questioned what these test sleds are or even noticed something different about them?
Did you ever see your competitors out testing prototype sleds?
Here is a shot of under the hood.
Do you think this thing would have done an endo over the first jump? A bit nose heavy perhaps ......

That particular segment of testing seems a lot like work. I would guess the towing snowmobile was geared down to avoid eating drive belts.

I see a Skiroule temp gauge, an OMC fuel tank and an EGT gauge on that sled.

Todd, I am not going to argue with you but... I don't belive that the tank is from an OMC, at first glance yes but I belive all of the 1970 ish tanks like that had a 3/8 threaded drain on the lower right side of the tank that is not present in the picture.JDT wrote:I see a Skiroule temp gauge, an OMC fuel tank and an EGT gauge on that sled.
