Wisconsins Dismal Winter

Post by tmartin »

Its rough over here. Last year at this time i had an easy 100 miles on the old Trailfire and by the end of the year I had close to 300 which was more than my new sled. It s just more fun to ride I guess. I repowered this machine in the offseason and was looking forward to hot rodding around as a 440 instead of 340. I had to trailer up to Tomahawk last weekend to get the breakin miles on(which turned out to be breakdown miles). Darn cdi boxes. Now the week straight of 40 degree days have the plowed fields looking like they are ready to plant. This is really grinding my gears. I work in the powersports industry as a mechanic and its hurting that as well. Where is the snow???

Were all hurting boys...even here in The Great White North we haven't got any snow to speak of. If I drive about 3 hours I could ride a bit, another 2 and it's decent snow, but 5 hours to ride just isn't in my plans...so the sleds sit collecting dust and I'm looking every day at just putting them away in the other shed and pulling my summer truck out to work on....very sad..I had probably 100 vintage miles on by now and 600-800 new sled miles..

Ditto Ohio! This is why we're putting together "VintageSleigh Day" at a local watering hole here in Toledo. Hopefully we can get together and do some BS-ing if nothin else. :beers;

I understand the winter is in Alaska this year, and pretty big time. Snow measured in feet and record cold temperatures. There is still plenty of time for snow since only one year ago today I was helping open township roads with a tractor mounted snowblower.

But Man-O-Man have the sled prices been good this year. Latched on to a few beauties this year for peanuts compared to years past. Been a good year for Deere hunting, got my limit!!!

yups, it is to weep.
Last year this time i had 685 miles on my 80 TF 440, 535 miles on my 81 Tigre 5000, and about 420 on my 2009 TZ1 Cat. :)
I've since sold the Tigre, but this season, i've managed about 260 on the TF and about 4 miles on the TZ1. Pathetic.

I don't mind summers but spend most of that summertime awaiting sweet winter...yah, where has this one travelled to.

Oh well, looking forward to getting my re-cranksealed engine back into my 473 mile liquifire this summer to run next (hopefully) winter!

Very nice. Apparently you can take the Trailfire to Eastern Europe where they have oodles of snow and have no clue how to deal with it. Amazing how things tend to balance out, unusually warm here and unusually cold in Italy.
