1982 Liquifire rev limiter at 7000 rpm's

Post by jasoniowa »

I have an 82 liquifire that ran good last year until crank seal went out. Rebuilt motor during the summer new seals, pistons, rings everything. Sled starts and runs good just not as fast as it was last year, noticed you cant get past 7000 rpms when full out. Rev limiter switch was not working, fixed that now at 7000 rpm full out it cuts out. Manual says 9000 it should do that. Any ideas?
My sleds, 1982 Liqufire, 1980 Trailfire, 1977 Sno*jet SST.

I would unplug the rev limiter even if its new, check again. Also a fresh engine will sometimes be a little "tight" until broke in, and not have all its power, until the rings have seated. You may wanna unplug all the kill switches too, had this happen to me once. Carbs clean & synched? Broken clutch spring?,Timing right on? No nests in the air box or exhaust? It will be something simple.usually is.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm running into the same problem on my 81. Won't pull past 7000 and doesn't have enough power to pull through deep snow. I tried a different CDI and external coil but haven't had any luck yet.

another thought is bad orings on the main jet circuit of the carb. I had one get "old" on me and was leaking fuel past the oring creating a over rich condition at full throttle. I replaced those and it runs great again.
