440 engine
Hi everyone, at my old age I am starting to forget more and more stuff lol. Anyways i took a 440 engine apart here about a month ago, and when I went to put it back together I can not remember where the thrust washers go. At least I call them thrust washers. There are two of them. I have the engine all the way apart, I am pretty sure they go on one end of the crank but like I say I cant remeber to save my life. Thanks for any help. Steve
Re: 440 engine
Steve,
I'm sure someone here can help you, but we'll need a little more info. Deere used 10 different 440 engines from 2 different manufacturers and they are vast differences internally. We'll be glad to help once we know what you're working on.

Re: 440 engine
it is a kawasaki 440 out of a trailfire. Will have to go and get the information off of the engine. I want to say it is a 1979 model
Re: 440 engine
It would appear as though they go between the outer bearings and the outer seals, one on each end. The washers are #7 in the following image. Click on it to enlarge it.

Re: 440 engine
If Dustin guessed correctly, they fit into slots in the crankcase. I believe they align the crank in the case.
