What's everyone's summer sled project?

Either way, 83 or 84, Wanie will have one awesome sled. Someday I want to be as smart and talented as him. Except with a personality of course.

I know where you can get an 83 tunnel and pan with some (very little) extras and probably pretty cheap.

It occurred to me after the HOF weekend, that if the wife is going to ride while I'm off on the Vintage Challenge, it would be easier on Don if I put e-start on it. I've had all the parts for many years, but as it requires a flywheel replacement on this particular engine, I've never took the time to do it.

What do you think Don, should I put that on the "to do list" ?

I'd say if you can get the wife to ride and to a certain level support your hobby I would make it as easy on her as you can. There was a topic a while ago that said if you can make it as easy and enjoyable as you can for your wife/ significant other as you can that is the way to go, Because if they don't enjoy whatever riding they do then you are doomed as far as the hobby goes.

Yes, but only after you get the 340/S VC prepped or................let Katy ride the 340/S.

The Liquifire I'm working on now will most likely be ridden by my daughter, and it will have electric start. The Sportfire, now that I'm keeping it, will be for my wife if she decides to ride, and yes I am planning on adding electric start to that one too. Anything to make it more enjoyable for the ladies is worth the effort. If I was you, I would add it to the list, probably near the top.

Well Joe you let the cat out of the bag!! I wonder if is sunk in to every one just whats going to happen here. This is not just stuffing a high end motor into a JD chassis, this is EVERYTHING chaincase,jackshaft, clutches , eng pipes,cooling system, track and suspension. plus WIDENING THE FRONT END 4in!!. Big enginering feat!! Looking to following this project (in person) this summer. ED

Cari Deerest saw the electric start on Adam's Panther, and loved it. She now wants it on her Sprintfire. Did Deere even make a kit for the Sprint, and does anyone have one for sale?

Not saying it doesn't exist, but I have never seen an electric start kit for the Sprintfires. I have looked. Now another avenue to explore would be that the Sprintfire motors were also used on some Ultralights and there may be an electric start option to be found if that direction is explored.

I am into my second 1982 Sprintfire restore as of now and have found an interesting plug caddy on this sled that looks like it was added at the factory. My other 1982 Sprint has a tensioner on it to keep the primary and secondary in alignment that also looks like it was a factory experimentation item. Interesting what you find on these sleds once you get your fingers into them.

just got a lead on 77 cyclone 440 i saw on trail last year. the guy came in to my store to pick a tuneup for his truck and said he had a cyclone he dindt want because he purchesed a new sled . he then proceeded to say the scrap yard would only give him 50 bucks and hed tried to sell it with no takers !!!
so 50 bucks later and a cdi and carb kit i had on the shelf later, its alive ! thats my summer project ! happy hunting everyone . hopefully i'll get started after annual newyork nyssa meeting and vintage show in old forge this april.

I had a 83 Sprint with electric start back "in the day" I got the sled when it was a couple of years old. Always thought it was a factory or dealer installation. Peter
