I have decide to pursue another John Deere snowmobile project and it appears that I can now purchase it but to do so will require my selling, not one but two, 340/S project sleds.
The two 340/S sleds are essentially all there but are not assembled. Before anyone asks, I will not separate nor will I sell individual parts or components. The deal would be great for the person who understands the uniqueness of the 340/S and has the time to complete one or both, or quite honestly they would make a great deal for the entrepreneur who will realize the money that could be made from selling individual parts.
I have a firm price of $ 2500 for the package. My Dad and Mom might be interested in delivery for expenses, you would have to contact him with questions. I have not had time to take pictures. But certainly will to help expedite the sale to serious buyers.
Please see the following information on the two sleds.
340/S #1: Serial number J340D030389M
The tunnel is stripped of paint but in excellent condition. It was converted to the aluminum pan and larger front bumper. There is one dent in the pan on the left side that can easily be removed. The steering components are all in the sled.
• Tool box is attached and appears to have only minor crack issues.
• Tool box door is in good condition
• No snow flap on this sled
• R & L grab handles are broken
• Seat Velcro on tunnel is in excellent condition
• Kelsey Hayes brake system is fully functional
• The handlebar pad is in very good condition
• The dash panel includes a workable tether switch as well as the normal gauges
• Hood is in good condition with all ducting in place. Chrome hood pin bezels are in good condition. The hood is blank on the right rear and has four vent holes on the left.
• The engine is in the sled. It’s an RS/2. It turns over freely but I have not done a compression check. CDI is mounted. Airbox is present but the hose running from the lower engine air duct to the airbox is missing.
• Wire harness is intact and appears undamaged.
• Drive clutch is not a John Deere Comet. Unsure of the source.
• Driven clutch is rusty.
• Jackshaft, brake disc,chaincase all intact. Chaincase cover has not been removed.
• Driveshaft /drive cogs/center wheel all look very good.
• Track is 2/3 cleated with several studs in the cleats but none in the rubber.
• Single fill fuel tank with original cover
• Belt guard intact but no hinge pin
• Skis and springs have been sandblasted and painted. No ski shocks.
• Skis have carbide wear bars.
• Sled has a complete exhaust system
• Seat needs recovered
• Suspension intact, shafts are not frozen. Suspension is rusty but no major damage noted.
340/S #2: Serial Number J340D30881M
The tunnel for this sled has been stripped and sandblasted, it’s ready for paint. Under where the fuel tank sits, it appears that three studs sliced small lines in the tunnel. Easily fixed but also unseen when the sled is together. It too was converted to the aluminum belly pan and bumper. The belly pan is in fair condition. Certainly does not need replaced but does need some work.
• This sleds does not have skis
• The toolbox is off and needs replaced if you’re a purist. If you realize it’s hidden under the seat then it’s good to be used again. Tool box door is good but could use new hinges.
• Engine turns over freely. It is an RS/2 and I’ve replaced the crank seals. No compression testing has been done. Both Carbs are there.
• All chaincase components are included.
• Single fill fuel tank with rough cover.
• Hood has been cut and modified for racing (grass drags I think) No ducting.
• The seat is at John’s being recovered. Buyer will be responsible to pay for recover or contact John to cancel the job.
• Complete exhaust system.
• Driveshaft is usable but could use new drivers.
• Kelsey-Hayes setup is included.
• Air box
• Driven clutch
• No drive clutch
• Dash panel is in good condition but empty.
• Handlebar pad is in rough condition.
• NOS Chrome Bezels for hood pins.
• Throttleside handgrip in good condition.
• Brake side grip is broken.
• Clutch Guard with pin
• Seat Velcro pieces are all in good condition
• Voltage Regulator
• Hood Pins
• Chaincase puck
• Headlight bracket
• Front bumper and all brackets
• Fuel tank straps
• Snowflap retainer but flap is in bad condtion.
• Ski Pins
• All Steering components
• L & R Spindles
• HD Brake Disc
• R & L Hood latches
• Trailer Hitch
• Rear Bumper
• Jackshaft with key
• Handlebar and bushings
• Suspension has been fitted with the John Deere Wheel Kit. Hyfax is in great condition. The suspension needs sandblasted and repainted but shafts are free. It’s really in great condition.

I heard a rumor that he found a Dator and it is going to be Purple with Minnesota Vikings trim and detail and Adrian Peterson airbrushed on the hood. Gonna look sweet!

Bob is gone this weekend in the event you can't get ahold of him. I'm sure he'll check in every chance he gets. Tomorrow Mottsi and I are traveling to Sledder670's to pickup an ATV and then down to the museum where my 340/S and CC are and bringing them home.
Anyway, I thought you might like to see a picture of one of Bob's 340/S suspensions, the one with the wheel kit. I'm the first to admit that it's rusty but still impressed that the shafts are not frozen and the wheels are in great shape. All spin freely. There are some minor issues with the rubber portion of the wheels but nothing that would harm it. The hyfax is in great condition too. Just trying to be honest here.
