Auction Blues

Post by JDT »

Not so much summer fun but today I got up at 6 am, left home at 7 am, drove in terrible fog for an hour to attend an auction sale with a sled that I wanted to buy.
1970 Scorpion Stinger with the rare 493 Hirth. Listing said it was restorable. I guess anything is restorable but if I got it cheap enough it could fly. It was in dire need of everything.

So when the sled finally got to the block, at 4 pm, (yes, that is 8 hrs later) the ringman says we are selling these sleds as "Choice". When the bid got close to my limit I asked the high bidder which one he was after and he says "the Polaris". Fine. So I quit bidding.

Sold! as the gavel comes down. Which one do you want asks the auctioneere. The knucklehead says standing next to me says all of them.
GrRRRRRRR!!
What a waste of a day.

I did score a real nice Selmer Bb Clarinet for $40.00 so it was not a total loss.

Just a side note, who would have guessed that a Stevens double barrel 410 would bring $2400.00!!!!!

I understand your frustration but that is always a chance you take when a item is offered on choice.

I would have talked to the winning bidder. he might have sold you the sled you wanted for a small profit

I have a Stevens Model 311A (double barrel 410). Bought it with money I got from selling muskrat hides to Ludy Sheda back when I was a kid. Bought it at Spooner Sports here in Tama.
