An ohm meter setting is what you need, you should be able to get all your resistance readings from the wires outside of the motor.

Ok. I checked the pulsar coil and got a reading of 21.8 ohms. Is that good?

Yes, per the diagram I posted before, which says 23 ohms +/- 20% across the red/white wires, so at 21.8 you are good. How about the red wire to ground? Should be 128 +/- 20%.

With the red wire to ground, I got 141.2 ohms. Starting to think its the cdi at fault. What do you think?

I was also wondering if a cdi for a 1980 Trailfire would work on my '79. It seems like it should, because I thought they have the same engine.

If you aren't sure how to do the ohm test I'm sure there are some videos on you tube that would help you.
Now I see you figured it out. I missed the second page of the thread.
I ordered a cheap cdi box on-line last year and it worked ok. It was black plastic instead of metal, but it seemed to work ok.
I think I found it on e bay.

Got it running!! Bought a kimpex cdi off ebay and put it on last night and it runs great now, but I wish I had some snow. Thanks guys for the help.
