i would really like to find a 84 Liq and i will someday get one if someone would ever sell theirs to me. When i was young and this was back in the mid 80"s probably 86..my uncle at the time had a good friend they were farmers had a 84 Liq he bought new rode it for a couple years i thought this was the coolest looking sled i ever saw my uncle had a 80 Scorpion TK 440 they would ride together all the time and i remember riding along on the back of my uncles Scorp..but boy was that Liq fast. That was when i started to like the Liqs. Anyways..I think a couple weeks after that if i remember correctly my uncles friends shop the Liq was in cought on fire and burnt everything in it including the 84 Liq. Now at the time i wasnt 100% sure it was a 84 but a couple years ago i went to the junk pile where he dumped the sled behind my grandpas farm and it still has the production date on it that said 83. I dont know what ahppend to the rest of the parts motor..ect but i know the frame, suspension and skis are still there with it as i speak today. What ashame huh?!..i bet a ot of 84"s were scrapped through the years. Almost makes u wana cringe but back then it was no big deal just another sled.

My serial # is .. MOLQFRX-285003 MFG 8/83

This seems to suggest my sled was the 3rd one off the line and Marks was one of the last ones ....
It would be interesting to see if someone has a number over 420 mark.

Kenny ..... first I have heard of this. I will look into this more. What I do believe
in is this ..... Any JD sled is what it is due to and only due to its serial number stamp.
I have a 83 Liq decaled as a 84. I tracked down the original owner and saw pictures of it with 83 decals. He crashed it shortly after buying it and the dealer
only had a 84 hood. So the dealer replaced the decals on the tunnel and gave it a 84 hood and you would never be able to tell. They show all the wear marks and it had me fooled until I saw the pictures. I do not refer to it as a 84 but a 83. Rainville saw it and thought I two of them. My guess is that the 84 Liq you are speaking of is not a 84 Liq. Send me a picture of that serial number and I will
track it for you and see if it was sold as a 83 Liq.

All serial numbers were stamped on the line with a hydraulic C type number
stamper and pressed into the tunnel.

With all this said ........... SLEDCHAD
ARE YOU NUTZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a 84 Liq sitting there screaming for someone to bring it back to life and
you let it sit!!!!!!!!!!!!

;)
Rescue it man!
God is answering your prayers and you are not listening to him or at least you keep hitting the snooz button.
If you are not interested ........... I am!
The parts are out there and like I said .... that serial number is all that matters.

Joe

PS .... here is a glimpse of my 83 decaled as a 84

It is my understanding that they are being done by Peter.
If not, I know that Hudziak has a full set that can be re poped.

I just plain ass lucked out when I got mine. The dealership I was working for was to be locked up by mother deere and the owner said I just can't get one for you BUT maybe our other store can??so I called the manager of the other store and he said I have ONE comming in but it is sold !!!! well about a month later the boss calls me and says do you still want that sled?? the guy came in paid for it transfered it but never picked it up yet and now he says try and sell it for me as I dont want it well golly geee let me think about it NOT yes I picked it up within the hour.Of all the dealerships that were around here in the early 80's I don't remember very many IF any that ordered the 84 since they were still trying to get rid of the 82 and 83's and money was tight up here for the farmers in the early 80's would be interesting to see how many are out there yet and the serial numbers Mark,

Well Horicon The sled was burnt up bad. It would cost me a lot of money to find all the parts to get it running again. As i said it is missing most of its parts. I know its a shame something like that had happend to an 84 LF. Its been sitting in the metel pile for 20 yrs now. But i love staring at it remembering what it looked like years back.

Sledchad.....I agree with Horicon Joe, the burnt 84 carcass should be revived. I am new to JD sleds but have been collecting the tractor and implement version of the long green line for many years. It takes ALOT of time (maybe years) and effort to collect the parts and restore a rare machine, but hearing it run for the first time and seeing it shine on the fresh snow would be wonderfully rewarding (especially since you remember it in its heyday); and searching for the parts is half of the fun. This is the type of project that would make my mouth water. If you choose not to tackle the sled, at least find it a good home with some TLC.

i dont own the sled my uncles friend does but I think it sort of would be rediculous to rebuild it in its condition. The frame is the same as it is on the other Liqs? The sled is down in Iowa and i dont always get down in that area i dont live there anymore. As i recall last seeing it it had the tunnel suspension and track in tacked the belly pans were melted and the skis were also there everything else was gone. I would like to find an 84 that needs some restore to none at all.
