I wasn't really ever planning on swapping out heads. Extra money for small hp gains. I polished the chambers on the Deere heads, and bumped the timing just a little. I built this as a trail machine, so I'm not working to squeeze every bit of hp out of her. Otherwise, I would have gone with the ProLites for the Invaders to bump the compression a small amount.

I guess it was just a matter of personal preference. I liked it better with the tach on the right.

I've been making slow but steady progress the past couple weeks. I have the sled completely together minus the hood. I was going to paint it myself, but have been a little short on time to get down to the paint booth. Instead, I am doing a little horse trading with friends of mine for a hood that's been painted already. I fired the sled up for the first time this evening, and it runs really well. I may take it out for a short run around the yard on Tuesday to see how it runs, then back in it goes until we get some more snow. I will get some more pictures on it when I have the hood set on.

Here are a couple shots of the hood. I omitted the screen and added the silver on the grille like the fan cooled sleds. I like the looks of it better.

I have an understanding wife, I guess. She doesn't mind when the sled projects find their way into the house.

I guess I can call this restoration a success. It's all together and runs great. I went for an 85 mile ride today, and it was a blast! I am considering putting a coil over gas shock in the skid to help it from bottoming out quite so much. The ski skins and carbides really helped with running straight down the trail without pulling all around. It handled very well cruising at 65. Now onto the 84 Sportfire, or the 83 Trailfire!
