It's a shame. You used to be able to walk through a salvage yard and find alot of the stuff with minimal effort. With scrap prices like they are most yards have crushed and sold the good old stuff. Back in the 80's when we demoed almost every 72-76 Oldsmobile station wagon we bought had a 455 in it. Maybe just luck of the draw. The Chevy wagons we found always had 350's or 400's. I did get lucky once and find a 402 BB in one. The Olds and Pontiac's seemed to always be the 455.

Around here we have a trader paper that covers the tri state area. There is a section just for engines. There are usually a few in there so they are still around. You'll find one. You may have to resort to just taking some Sunday drives and looking in peoples back yards. Might be surprised what you will find. Might be able to drive something home for a few hundred bucks.

I just saw this thread. it brings back a lot of memories. My family had a '72 Buick Estate Wagon with a 455 when I was a kid and when I got my license I drove it to school every day. It wore out and rusted out at the same time in about 1984 or 1985. I had fun with it while it lasted though. That torque monster under the hood made it a blast to drive.

Good luck with your project. It's a cool car and deserves to be saved.

HAHAHAHA. It was just an Idea. At the very least you should do a full gasket set. And clean the block and repaint it Buick green??? I think that's what it was.
