Vintage Challenge Sled Update

Post by jdsledhead »

looks good brian, I will be attempting that mod as well, dont want the steel studs I found to go through my tunnel. I like the idea of putting the hyfax strip in the center too. (wether you came up with that idea or not) lol. You did make sure no to run the studs down the center where the strip is though right?

If the track runs reasonably straight, there should be no problem. There are no studs in the inner most rivet hole of the cleats. I'd have used another of the tunnel protector strips, as they are much narrower, but I didn't want to wait. Central has gotten pretty slow as of late. You can see the grooves the cleats have been making in the tunnel. With picks installed, even with the suspension lowered now, I didn't want to take any chances. Those picks will cut aluminum like butter I'd bet!

My uhpolstery guy called yesterday and had my 340/S ready. I ran up this morning and picked it up.

He said it was a real challange! I had to laugh since this is a my challenge ride sled. :lol22:

Last ones. The truck box lid is just sitting there. I have a new trunk box from Rainville to install and then I'll get it permanently attached. It's coming around.

He said it was a real challange!

That means he missed the estimate by $100 right?

It does look real nice.

By the way Troy, thanks for the tip on the tray. It arrived today

Hey Don, does that tank cover fit better than your original?

Thanks guys.

Todd, yeah he did estimate to the low side. When I talked to him on the phone he was thinking a 4-wheeler or motorcycle seat. Oh yeah no big deal, do those all the time. His eyes got big when I showed up with the sled and pictures of what I wanted done. :lol22:

Glad to help on the tray. I'm glad you found one.

340S engine going back together. Rebuilt crank, new rings, and a little clean up.

Vintage Challenge Sled Update

Post by HoosierDeereMan »

I've had the sled running and it seems to run pretty good. Timing is set. I have a exhaust leak I need to deal with. I finished up installing the second CDI and handle bar heaters. Getting the engine aligned has been an adventure! It's finally set and I'm anxious to see how the belt wear does. The track is adjusted and appears to be tracking true. Finishing touches are about all thats left. When my hood pins, hood plates, and rear grab handle plates I try to get it wrapped up. They are calling for snow here Tuesday so I can't wait to see if all this work is worth it or not. Keep your fingers crossed!

How are the rest of you guys coming?

Just found these, Anybody need any NOS M63929 covers/plugs?? I think I have a few extras.
These are the 295/S Belly Plugs but are larger than the 340/S ones if you happen to have a large clutch bolt access hole in your pan??
