Vintage Challenge Sled Update

Hi Guys,

After hording parts for years, and finally getting a decient chassis from Jesse to start with, I've finally made some progress on my 340/s resto. I am starting from a pile of used and NOS parts, not a complete sled by any means.

First, thanks to Jerome Krentzman, I have a nicely rebuilt crank with freash bearings and seals ready to go. I have ordered a new seat cover from John's Upolstery this week also.

Tonight, after about 4 hrs labor, I finally have my suspension completely torn down. I am starting to feel Troy's pain! Luckily, mine was not as beat up as what he started with. To put this into perspective, a buddie and I tore down my 2005 Sno Pro 440 to the bare chassis in 2hrs flat.

Plans for this weekend include bead blasting all the motor parts and hope to start re-assembly too. I also want to drop all the steel "Blitz Black" parts off for sandblasting, including the suspension, handle bars, ski's, etc.

Need to get the chassis stripped asap and get that and the glass hood and pan to the painters. Man, time is running short! Luckily I have some time off over Christmas to try to get caught up.

I think there should be a countdown clock to the HOF somewhere on the site. Just to let everyone know how much time before the big event!

What about that chromed out restoration in progress that you "bought" in Churobusco, Indiana from that Don guy?

Jack,

Turned out the punk kid accepted a higher bribe to retrive the sled in the middle of the night. It was easy to find, you could see the sparkle all the way from I-90.

Now I am left to do things the hard way, LOL!

Last night I got the rails stripped of the bumper stops and old slides are removed. Most of the rear skid is ready for sandblasting.

Also stripped down the driven and drive clutch for blasting and rebuilding.

Progress is a beautful thing...

Welded up my cracked skid frame last night, then started studding the track.
I'm using Rich's skip every third cleat pattern.

I've got idler wheels ready to re-rivet after bearing replacement, the rivets came today.

I don't know how much cosmetic stuff I can address, being as I've found so much mechanical stuff to keep busy at.

Hi Guys,

Here are a few pic's of some of the progress I've made this weekend. Man, am I behind!

First pic is of the motor parts I was able to get glass bead blasted this weekend.
Next pic is of the bare suspension parts going out for sandblasting this week.

Here are the NOS glass pan and hood that I am using. They are going to the painters at the end of next week to be pained along with the tunnel. They are both in great shape. but have some 'shelf wear' and a few scratches.

Last pic is my back up plan if the 340/s isn't done in time...

Do what you want as it's your sled but................................I'd chrome those suspension side rails..............man that would be cool....................but it's your sled do what you want..........................I suppose plain old black would be ok but chrome..............................wow!!
