Mitch

You have options here.

If you have the narrow bumper, you can repair your current pan, or replace it with one of Lee's repro glass pans. If you want to go with the aluminum pan, you really need to use the Cyclone/LF type bumper.

The "Make a Wish" guys used a repro glass pan with the Cyclone type bumper, but there were some major issues.
What I typically hear is that the original ABS pans are so fragile ( now ) that they turn to dust if you look at it.

Mitch, I certainly had the opportunity to have a plastic or glass pan but chose not to. Quite honestly had I had the chance to change before the I-500 I would have jumped at it. Just look at my racing pictures and pay attention to the right side of the pan. Even on my signature picture you can see a crack on the left side.

Mitch although I don't have a running 340/S at this time, I have watched numerous guys with both types of pans on there 340/S, the thing I see with using the glass pan is that you CAN"T realistically move the front of the front of the sled around with the glass pan, there really isn't any supports to help with lifting the front up by the bumper... without cracking the pan, so with that said how would you move the front of the sled around it you got stuck trail riding? what if you hit a rock or dirt clog with the right ski & the back punched a hole in the pan under the gear case? etc. etc.
Go with the aluminum pan

Mitch,

Kenny makes a very valid point about the aluminum pan and the Cyclone bumper adding alot of strength to the front end. These things are heavy and if you get in a situation where you have to move or drag the front of the sled I think you would be much happier with the added support of the aluminum pan. Another thing to seriously consider. Does your glass pan have the 4 holes in the belly pan to access the 4 engine mount bolts? If so I would make sure you transfer those holes onto the aluminum pan. It sure does make aligning the clutch much easier.

ok mitch , i have very limited experience with my 340/s so let that qualify my comments kenny is right moving the sled is almost impossible unless it is running or you are dragging it backwards i have mine on a set of scooters i bought at the silent auction at waconia ,i knew i would need them to get my sled back into my shop without a prescheduled appointment at the chiropractors so i made sure i won the auction !!! BUT how sweet to have the narrow bumper . i have the hood brackets for them if you need them . since the pans are repopped now its not like you cant replace your pan if it did get damaged .i would venture a guess you will plan to ride your sled with caution and reguardless of which pan it has on it . my thoughts wade
