340/s chain

Post by Sprailfire340 »

I discovered a broken chain on my 340/s...Is this chain specific to the 340/s or will it interchange with another JD model? Don't recall which ratio it is currently geared for, but do any of the chains/sprocket combos interchange with another sled? Thanks

I replaced the standard ratio chain on mine with a new one from Central Snowmobile ( that's how long ago that was ).
You'll have to do some looking. They go by the number of pitches ( length ) and the number of plates ( width ).
I seem to remember that Kat used some of the same chains.

I've been told JD used the same style roller chain for all 76-84 models. Only difference is, as you mentioned, the pitch. Similar chain also used by Cat, Poo.

Mitch, I'd more consider it timing style chain rather than roller, & yes 76-84 Deere, Cat & Polaris used the same chain & sprockets, the other 2 Mfg's used different ratios so there should be a great number of combination's out there that will work. finding a good chain tightener will be the most difficult..
