340/S Found
340/S Found
I was lead to a 340/S today and I need a little info. It is a 340/S that is very rough no motor hood badly broken, seat is shot, tunnel is straight aluminun pan, and fuel tank. The guy knows it is worth something and will get me a price after he does some research. Can anyone tell me what this thing should be worth in the condition it is in, so when he gets me a price if I should take it or leave it. As far as he can tell it has no race history. I would like it to stay in the area as it was owned by a local dealership.
Re: 340/S Found
hello, one sold in on evil bay last winter for $2000. it had been rebuilt needing only cosmetic tune-up and was in good complete condition. given that, with no motor in rough shape i wouldn't go more than 3 or 4 hundred. however, keep it alive as they are few and far between. dan

Hi Mike,
I have purchased about 1/2 dozen of them over the past few years. While prices have climbed for the nice ones, the one you describe is not worth a ton of cash, in part due to condition, and it not being complete. If you have a chassis, bumper, gas tank, stearing, chaincase, clutches, suspension, motor, carbs, air box and a pipe, you can buy almost everything else repop to finish it.
So far hoods, pans, windshields, seat covers, rear tool boxes and snowflaps are available from your fellow collectors.
I agree with Dan on value, but I would only say $200 to $300 at most. Deere built about 1,000 340/s sleds, so they are not very rare, but can be hard to find.
I hope this helps,

I will post a picture in the next day or so. I know this fellow has talked to a board member but he is not sure if he wants it. I would like to have it but I am not sure what he wants for it or what people have told him its worth. If I got it I would store it in hopes of finding parts to restore it someday. This sled is in Canada but he says according to the serial number it was originally owned in Ohio. It has a 1975 plate on it from this province.

Hi Mike,
I was given info and pic's on one simular to what you are describing my a friend in Canada. The seller was asking $1,000 to $1,200 my contact told me. I passed at that price point, as the sled is hammered and gave him a range I would be willling to pay. They might have the motor for that one, but it was probably in pieces.
I hope this helps,

PS: I retain the right to change my mind for one that works better.
