Re: Sprintfire gaskets and crank seals
You can try Bob at Image Enterprises but last time I checked, he was out. He was talking about possibly having more made. Be prepared to pay if he has them. You better start the second mortgage paperwork on your house now before calling him however.
Second option: here's what I did with one of my Sprints. I bought some gasket material from a local car parts place. They all should have some. I carefully took off the water pump gasket on my Sprintfire with a razor blade. I then layed the water pump gasket over the gasket sheet. I took a can of spray paint and sprayed a light coat of paint over the gasket. Then remove the gasket, let the paint dry and you'll have a perfect template in which you can cut out for your "new" gasket. Did this a couple of years ago on my complete rebuild and have not had a drop leak as of yet.

Re: Sprintfire gaskets and crank seals
Cometic will make them if you sent them the old one but ouch it will sting a little on price. I had a set of 295/S head gaskets made at 30 bucks each spendy but working great.
Re: Sprintfire gaskets and crank seals
Talked to Bob at Image this morning. He is apparently having Cometic run more gaskets very soon for the Sprintfire engines but no longer can supply the rubber head gasket which seals the water jacket between the block and cylinder head.

Re: Sprintfire gaskets and crank seals
That's good news. However, I bought a gasket set from Bob at Image in Feb 2010 and the set does not include that water pump gasket. Includes base gasket, head gaskets, exhaust gaskets and I believe that is it. It was also like $50-60.

Re: Sprintfire gaskets and crank seals
We had a board member JDXRobin who created base gaskets for the 340/s. No reason he couldn't do the same for other models. Haven't seen him here in awhile.

Re: Sprintfire gaskets and crank seals
When I bought the gaskets from Bob at Image in '05 they were $75 for the set and $6 each for the crank seals. The JD tech manual that I have says to use crankcase sealer for the water pump. I ended up cutting my own gasket instead. I've got a few of the Sprintfire water jacket seals in my NOS stash if you need one. A base gasket failure could come from a bad backfire or just age. I'd say that the 30 year old gasket just finally let loose. Check your crank over well. I had to make 1 crank out of 3 because the PTO bearings on all 3 were shot. The Sprintfire crank has a red coating over the bearings so you won't find a replacement. There are NOS cranks out there for a relatively small price. Make sure you replace your crank seals!
