Where is the Serial Number
I just purchased my first JD sled for nostalgia reasons - a 1972 JD 500. I can't find the serial number for the sled - any suggestions where to look?

One other comment - I have been told that it should be on the right side of the tunnel, directly below the seat. There is no tag at this location, or any rivet holes.

Re: Where is the Serial Number
On the right side of the tunnel about 12 inches up from the rear of the sled should be a black Horicon manufacturing sticker. Under that black sticker would be the number stamped into the tunnel itself. If yours is a '72 500 it should read something like 5000?????A. If you can't find a number in this location then you may have a replacement tunnel. My understanding is that replacement tunnels were left blank and then stamped with the original serial number of the tunnel they replaced. Stamping the blank tunnel wasn't always done.

Thank you. Must be a replacement tunnel.
