Fastest sled in 79

Today I was helping a friend do some maintenace on his 79 El Tigre 6000.
We renewed the jack and drive shaft bearings, carbs, some cosmetics and a hood hinge replacemnet.

This was the first production sled to hit 100 MPH.
I have not riden one in a few years and forgot how truly fast that 440 Cat can scream.

i thought the 6000 was a 600. i have a 5000 free air out of a el tigre and its a 500. im just confused that cat named them like that.

The 1000 series all started in 1976 with the switch the Suzuki engines.
It kind of went like this.....

2000 was originaly a 275 cc FA twin. Later a 2000 single was introduced in the Lynx. I think it was a 272.
3000 was a 340 FA and morphed into a fan in 79.
4000 was a 400 fan.
5000 was really strange starting out as a twin carb 500 cc FA screamer and than tamed down to a 500 cc Fan with a singe carb.
6000 was originaly a 440 LC with twin carbs introduced in 79 and than went to a 500cc.

The later 600 after Cat came back was a real 600cc but way to new for me to ever have owned.

cool. well mine is the twin carbs one. it has a y pipe coming out but i plan on having twin pipes on it.

You can still by brand new pipes from AAEN for both the 5000 and the 6000.
Also the 1st and 2nd series of JD Liquifires.
