i was just wondering if anyone had ever tried setting up a 73 jdx4 with a kohler 295 f/c twin in it, it has a nice full fubber track, alum bogies, alum front bumper, plastic tank up front, the kohler makes about 28hp @ 8,000 rpms, i just had a couple quuestion i wasnt sure about, i hav heard that you can take the walbro carb off switch it to a 32mm mik. roundslide carb, id need a single throttle cable, single fuel pump(off a cyclone i have one) a rubber 32mm intake boot and id have to figure out the jetting specs. my other question is clutching i want to put a 102c off from a 76_77 jd liquifire i have heard for the liquifires you can switch from the black clutch spring to the silver clutch spring and R1 weights, for the kohler 295 i would imagine it would be different, for that application i was told that i could use a gold spring and B-1 weights, does anone know what the rpm engagement is? and my last question would it be worth it studding the full rubber track seems like the bogies would work good in the grass becuase i have seen that the 295/S was grass dragged back in the day quite a bit
thanks for any info/ input guys

Re: Picking up a jdx4 this week
Keep in mind the Kohler is a F/A engine and needs a steady flow of clean air over it to keep from overheating.
The JDX4 hood will not provide enough air opening and the cowling will restrict exhaust if you do not make mods to the OEM parts.
If you are going to race this and not show it than install vent holes and grills on the hood and cowling and you will be ok.

He's planning on using the fan cooled Kohler that came in the JDX4 Todd, not the 340 free air that came in the spitty.

Re: Picking up a jdx4 this week
lol its alright, so here's a list of the plans for the sled
repaint the tunnel and hood
polish up the alum boggies
studd the track
freshen up the motor with new track seals, full gasket kit ect...
change over to a 32mm mik. roundslide carb,, single fuel pump, ect..
find the parts needed like a good certer council with panels
find a good alum. front pumper
swap clutches to a 102c with a gold spring and B-1 weights
i was also thinking i maight take the spare jdx hood i have take the headlight/ grill assembly out and put a screen in it for a little more air flow on the engine
and go from there
