Spitfire driveshaft help needed.

Post by Jingles »

Need to find out the correct way the left drive shaft bearing is supposed to be installed on the track driveshaft. There is an extended part on one side of the bearing hub, and I need to know if this is supposed to face the driven sheave or the center of the sled.
If I get this wrong, the drive and driven sheaves will not line up. Also if any one knows
any good tricks to getting the aluminum shafts out of the suspension when siezed in, I'd love to hear. Great board. Thanks. Ron.

Thanks a million Joe! Really appreciate the help, but now I'm really confused. The text
of the instructiions make perfect sense, but the pictures appear to be mirror images. If you look at the pictures, they don't make sense unless the left side is "starboard" and the right side is "port". I would assume that the left side of the machine is on your left hand when you sit on the machine[faceing forward of course]. Anyone else notice this?
I'm thinking maybe the images were reversed when copied from microfische to paper?
Anyone have any comments? Ron.

They make sense to me. ??? I believe they appear the same way they do in the
books or the printing would be backwards as well.
The sled is shown upside down. Rotate the sled in your mind about the shaft and
it should make sense.

Thanks Joe, you're right. I've been working on my machine lying on my back with the rear lifted up. It never occured to me that the pictures were taken with the sled upside
down. Got to get one of those manuals. Thanks again. Ron.
