No luck yet, I talked to the guest relations mngr, and she said the whole hotel is booked with people from the race. Thats hard to belive.. She said its a first.. She said she will contact me if anything opens up. As of now, my gas guy and I can stay with Brian Hitt, my neighbor. He raced last year on a Deere. My girlfriend and one of my sponsors want to come too though. So I'd like to get my own room for the 4 of us.

Luckily Cari Deerest booked 2 rooms for me this summer, so "Mixed Breed Racing" should be set. As for the sled, my wrenching pal Joe Sherwood stopped by and we stripped it to the crank to check for damage:

Other than a scuffed piston and some aluminum on the cylinder wall, the damage from last year looks ok. We got the bottom end buttoned up and the new Wiseco's installed before I headed back to Texas:

I am building a back up motor down here to ship home, in case I find any issues testing this one. Will be at work studding the track next weekend...

340/s is coming along well got some pics on my phone but not near bright enough to get them to the computer , has the mill rebuilt and in the sled steering done handlebars assembled with warmers and willwood brake stuff and ac/powermadd throttle control egt gauge mounted, rubber track conversion figured out but not near complete. still a ton of work to do but the last few days things have started to take some shape my goal it to have it ridable by next friday thats should give 3 weeks or so to build a comfortable seat and load the trailer 78 liquifire gets attention whenever there is down-time ,waiting on parts etc . it has a 340/s gas tank, fresh 440 mill ,cc bars, willwood brakes ,same p85 /team clutching as the other two sleds chris can speak for himself if he chooses but he is way ahead of me he is just down to chasing details should be a hoot wade

Wade,

Post some pic's! I am envious (and proud, LOL!) that you beat me to building a 340/s I-500 sled. I do hope to run my restored one in the Vintage Challenge, but I will be lucky to get my I-500 Liquifire rebuilt in time, much as less build a new sled.

Here is my chassis as I last saw it:

Image

After slapping it together last year, I need to correct some of the rush jobs' in the skid, stud the track, installed ski skins if I can't get around to doing plasic ski's, clean up the wiring a bit, and clean up the hydraulic disk caliper instal. Once she has her new motor installed, I need to calibrate the clutches and test, test...TEST. Would really like to see her roll over the finish line under her own power this year.

But no matter what, I am going to race with a great group of legends and collectors, and have a great time no matter my finish. See you there!
