UPS Lesson Learned !!!

I needed to ship three seats to John's Upholstery. It's very hard to find boxes for seats so I thought I'd do the next best thing and wrapped the seats in commercial shipping wrap that I put over some bubble wrap. GREAT IDEA!!!!! NOT.

When my bill came from UPS in addition to my UPS Ground rate was a "Additional Handling Charge" for "Not being cardboard encased". The average shipping charge per seat was $14.73 while the per seat "Additional Handling Charge" was $26.52 or a total of $41.25 per seat!!

There you go folks, learn from ole Don's mistakes!! By the way, John endorses Spee-Dee delivery if you have it in your area. I do not.

WOW Don It may have been cheaper to just "FLY" them out to John's ! I think they would have just taken up 1 seat in the plane !

SpeeDee is expanding. They now have a terminal in Aberdeen SD.

Call them up and request service in your area. If enough people call they my expand your way.

I have used Speedee for years. They have very good service and can ship large items like hoods without rediculas surcharges.

As stated, SpeeDee is the way to go if they are in your area of delivery. I have shyed away from the Brown trucks of UPS for years because of what they charge. I have also found that the good old USPS is really a pretty good deal. I use them more than 90% of the time and have been satisfied. I know there is always the exception but they have treated me well even for large items and good pricing.

I used the ole standby USPS for my seat to john---don't remember the charge exactly but I did compare it to UPS and the POSTAL SERVICE was much cheaper----maybe took a day or 2 longer but I was in no hurry. USPS--still the best deal in shipping for anything you don't need in a day or 2.

I made my own box from two boxes and lots of packing tape for the seat I sent to John this week. I used USPS and sent it parcel post....It was $12 and change.

I was debating on using Don's idea of packaging but used boxes instead.

Speedee is a great option too. But Im not sure if they service the Waterloo IA area...???

USPS is cheaper on most small stuff and usually pretty safe as long as it isn't a Dator crank..... lol

Those flate rate prioriy mail boxes are a real bargain. "If it fits, it ships"

Always remember to insure the contents however.

Note that UPS has $100 insurance automaticly but you have to ask for a higher amount.
