jdx8 coils

Post by Deleted User »

my dealer lost thier tech manual for testing coils, sigh. I'm getting intermittant spark and am sure the points are bad. nevertheless, id like to test the coils before i take the thing apart. does anyone have a scanned tech manual that they can email me or a spec for coil resistance. I've been able to locate NOS parts, but is there another parts source for the ccw engine parts. low ser # jdx8, got it for free with no broken plastic and a decent cover

best thing is to just clean the points up make sure theres a good ground were external coils are mounted and unscrew both ends of the plug wire and check for corrosion if necasary cut a small amount off each end and reassemble I understand your wanting to check the coils but Ive never had to replace 1 on any old sled of any brand Ive got sparking again. So if you dont get any info just dive in its fairly easy. Just check some other posts on here for the details on cleaning up the points

I'm refering to a '74 service manual.
There are some minor differences between '73 and '74 X8 specs.

An X8 should have a Denso ignition system
breaker point gap .014 inch

Ignition coils:
operating amperage 1.3 amps
secodary resistance 8.35 K ohms
primary resistance .37 ohms

Ignition generating coil
resistance 1.3 - 1.4 ohms
