74 JD 300 Engine Problems

Post by JD300Matt »

There is something either wrong with the carberator or the fuel lines. The Walbro was rebuilt last winter and after putting it on it never ran good after that. It will not start now without putting gas in the carburator and after shutting it off it will not restart. ALso it does not run well while its running because at full throttle it does not have the power it should. It does not go very fast and does not make it up hills very well. Any suggestions?

I'd get another fuel pump kit and try cleaning the carb again. Also make sure you have a check valve on the intake line in the tank.

Matt has some good ideas there and having to rebuild the carb again certainly isnt out of the question. Hate to sound like a broken record as I am always saying to do this but it is very important and often overlooked when performance problems occur. It is a good idea to do a compresion check and verify you are working with a sound motor before doing alot of work and spending $$$$$$$$$ on new parts. This comes from bad experiences in my younger days.
