Who has a 82-84 Liq handy?
Hey guys .... Do you any of you have a 82-84 Liq that you can put on a track stand and pin the throttle and tell me the highest RPM you can reach?
I am looking for a bench mark as I believe my 83 is falling about 1000 rpms short and I can not figure out why.
Thanks
Joe

I was testing one the other night, it would pull 7200 on the ground. I can put it on a stand if you want me to
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

Re: Who has a 82-84 Liq handy?
yes with drive hooked up. I was pulling 6000 on the ground top speed. On the stand it was about 7000 and this would take all clutch problems out.
I changed a fuel filter and now get 8000 on the stand. My friend has the same sled and pulls 9000+ on the stand. I put new orings in the carbs and still 8000 on the stand.
I am looking for a solid base line of what it should pull on the stand. The engine runs strong and idles well. ????????????????

8000 on the stand seems pretty good, 9000 is too high i think, he must have his limiter unplugged. Mountain sleds pull 8200 and after that its too much
ill see what mine does tonight

Normally a sled will be about 3 or 4 hundred low on the backstand. That applies whether it is an 80 Liquifire or an 2012 E-Tec. As for running 9000 on the stand,,,,,, something is amiss.
Re: Who has a 82-84 Liq handy?
I ran 9000 on the stand easy and if I worked it I could get 9500 lol

Joe Can we assume the track tension, bearings and chain drive tensions have all been checked ? Oh and also the Jack shaft bearings ? I was sitting here thinking about these posts , and it occured to me that maybe something is holding back the engine besides fuel ? Another consideration may be the rev limiter may be faulty ? I am no expert by any means just trying to throw a couple ideas out for you !
Ps Not that I would ever suggest this but If it were me i would take the drive belt off and start the engine and play with the throttle. See what it revs to and then go from there. Over revving can cause crank twist , but in my thoughts thats what the rev limiter is there to restrict ?? hope this helps

Guys. Friction in the driveterain has very little effect on engine shift RPM. That is why you can go down a lake on glare ice 80mph@8000 rpm or through 2 foot of snow 20mph@8000 rpm. It is the position of the belt in the belt clutch that is effected by load not the shift rpm. Peter

Re: Who has a 82-84 Liq handy?
Thanks for the help guys. Some background. 3 years ago this sled was rebuilt from the ground up. All new everything. That year it ran real strong and
was by far the fastest liquifire in our group. Last year I siezed the engine (long story) and rebuilt the top end this year. I did not change anything in the carbs or clutches. Now the engine runs fine but no top end. The sled accelerates well and when it reaches 7500 rpm it starts to drop down to around 6000
as you are driving it. The primary is not closing all the way and has left a belt mark about 1 inch down below the top of clutch. I would like to try a different clutch tomorrow if anyone up here has one. I would love to get to the bottom of this ..........

Re: Who has a 82-84 Liq handy?
make sure the air box is on and it is tight or the power valve carbs wont suck fuel up the power jet and not run on top end even on a jack stand
