80 sportfire died? Need some help please

Post by JDRIDER »

Hi everyone I've got an 80 sportfire that I completely rebuilt the engine 2 yrs ago including new seals and everything. Ran like a dream and always fired on the second pull. I had it out the other day and rode it for a good 3 hours then it just died (acted like it ran outta fuel) towed it back to my shop and went out this morning to attempt to ride it again and it fired up but when I shut the choke off and throttled it up it died. Tryed a couple more times and same thing. I'm at a loss because It was just running like a dream. Any help would be great thanks,
J rad

Start with the basics... Spark, Compression and Fuel.

You need all three.

Has spark, full tank of fuel, has compression, getting fuel to the carb kinda looks like little air bubbles in the fuel line tho. Ran good for about 5 mins about 2 Hrs ago then acted up and died again

im saying youve got some crap in the carb , the new fuel flowing through it could be acting lik a solvent and loosening up old fuel and junk and its ending up where it shouldnt be just my guess wade

Jared I agree with Wade. These PJ carbs have to look like mirrors inside to run well. Also check the O-ring on the end of the power-jet that seats down into the bowl. Make sure its not dry/cracked/scratched etc etc .... hope this helps ! :usa:
