340/s pyrometer thoughts

Post by lwb140 »

hello all ,im reassembling a 340/s with kind of a vintage racer theme, it wil hae a dual fill tank and twist grip throttle ,ok before everyone jumps in here this sled wont be a trailer queen by any means but wont see many miles and at low speeds with the danger of the trist grip in mind ,another words sober :beers;
anyway i have a twin cylinder isspro pyro im planning to put on it as well like the ones used on the 295/s . looking for a clean way to mount it besides duct taping it to the handlebars ! thinking about putting it in place of the speedo , ive got some really mixed emotions about it , i want it to look like a period correct racer , maybe the pryo goes back in the cabinet ? any thoughts wade

Wade there are aftermarket gauge pods available to mount extra indicators on dashes or hoods.

Two 3/16'' holes for hardware and one 1/4" hole for wires/sensors. Single and twin designs.

Kind of tear dropped shape. Not bad and they blend in OK.

HP carries them, maybe others.

todd , thanks for the ideas , keep them coming the gauge is not a common diameter it is 3.080 " , there is a cup on ebay now that i think it would fit in pretty well the face flange is 3.280" kind of trying to figure out how to mount the cup to the handlebars without messing up the pad ,ill look at your ideas , btw thx for coming and helping us at the I500 :sled: :sled: see you soon wade

If you took the pad off, you could zip tie a foam pipe wrap from grip to grip, leaving the pipe coming up to mount the gauge to. Otherwise, your idea of replacing the speedo with the EGT is probably a winner, as the dash on the 340/S doesn't have much extra space.

I say no to hacking the original pad. On my CC I just use pipe foam wrapped in electrical tape.

Besides, the pyrometer will tell you what?? That you're burning down a piston 100 yards earlier than the engine seizing? And finally.....when you're banging along in the ditches, if you're watching the little pyrometer you're not watching the trail. OK, father Don is done LOL
