Liquifire tunnel mix and match

Post by PolCat »

New guy to John Deeres here.
Is it possible to use different year Liquifire tunnels with different years? I have a 77? with the rear of the tunnel cracked up.
I have re-enforced it with a metal bracket so it is usable. Would it be easier to retro fit a Cyclone tunnel for a Liquifire motor
and cooling system?
Would this tunnel work on a 77?

The sled in the picture looks to be either a 76 or 77, with 78 decals. The 76, 77 models had the tunnel mounted coolers and fuel tank like the one in the picture. The 78's had a bulkhead cooler with radiator, and the fuel tank had a storage compartment built in. What's the build date on the tunnel?

The Liquifire in the picture has several mis-matched pieces. By the decals, it looks like a 78 but the serial number would be the clue. If it is a 78, it has the a 76/77 fuel tank. The 78 has a storage box in it. You should ask for a picture of the suspenion. If it is a 78, it would be a good modification to kraft that to your front end. A 78 bulkhead exchanger would be a good mod too. Not really sure if your 76 Liq pan would fit the profile off this one.

Here is the link to the ad this tunnel is in http://appleton.craigslist.org/bar/3530196509.html
Looking at this picture does it look like there is a piece of belly pan missing?
Upper right corner of the pic. Where the hinge should be

To answer your original question, I would say it is definitely easier to retrofit a Cyclone tunnel to accept the tunnel coolers than to skin a pan off of another Liquifire and than have to weld it on to your tunnel. I'm saying this from experience too. There's a lot more work involved in skinning a pan than just cutting a few holes in a tunnel.

Just my .02 cents worth..
