NEW PROJECT! 1975 JDX6

Post by JD600 »

Hi guys.

I thought i'd fill everyone in on my new project. Since moving to Nebraska in July, i haven't really wrenched on a sled at all. What a tough 8 months of rehab that was. Well, after making it about half way through step 3 of Midmounts Anonymous, (its a 12 step program) i saw Brian's beautifully restored '72 400 at Thee SHOF, and it renewed my faith in humanity as a whole. As soon as i got home, i vowed to finish setting my shop up and let the wrenching begin. Well, last evening, i drug a VERY tired (no offence Ed) 1975 JDX6 (which i acquired about a year and a half ago from cledussnow77) into my garage and began tear down. Upon inspection, it appears as though a lot of parts are going to be needed to complete this project. Thanks to some of my good friends, i already have NOS cylinders, pistons, gaskets, and a crank shaft. This will be a complete restoration from the ground up, just as the several skoalmint and i have completed over the last few years. The biggest challenge here will be that for the first time, he is 800 miles away.... At any rate, I will be posting updates and pics as i work on this project. Just wanted to keep ya'll in the loop. Pics to come!

Dustin, you are obviously just a bit touched in the head. :bonk:

Breath deeply and slowly, and the giddiness will moderate. If that fails, try a medicinal Bud Lite or two.

Looking forward to pics.

Actually, the other sled on the trailer is a JDX4 and is next on the list of projects to complete. I now need to find another machine to borrow some parts from....

Dustin,

I heard rumors you came away from the dark side and rode front engine sleds this year...

There must be something strange in the Deere waters...I made a deal to purchase a 73 400 and a 77 300 this week...like I need more sleds in TX. That doubles the mid-mount sleds I currently have. For some strange reason, I have a nutty idea to do the Vintage Challenge or Poker Run on a bogie wheel mid-mount, but I should sober up soon...

Kevin Campbell and myself are the only riders to successfully do the VC on mid-mounts. I don't believe anyone has completed it on bogies, Kevin burned down his 800 right after the first fuel stop in 2010 I think.

As for the above statement by JDJR... he can't handle a mid-mount.

JWTR may be on to something Brian.

A mid mount has a larger crunch area between the bumper and the engine.

Or between the trunk and the noggin depending how you look at it.

 :silenced:

This is my goal for next year, i just haven't had any test time on the 800 yet to be comfortable with it.
